It took me a bit to tell the difference....red headed male, green headed female.
How close were you to them when you took the pictures? Right in your yard?
carolem said: I just slid open the door enough to peer my camera out and zoom, without me stepping out at all. How far you asked .... gosh, 20-30 feet I'm thinking. Can't tell you though how many coffees, or breakfast porridges have gone cold because of the photo opportunity taking over... It's so easy to just get caught up in the moment, right?

and Noisy Miner, with a bad reputation because of its aggressive nature and how they colonize in large numbers, eventually driving out many smaller species. I witnessed this this afternoon as a Rainbow Lorikeet was feeding on camellia nectar and in came a Noisy Miner in hot pursuit.

Yes, Ann, thank you for the correct ID on my vulture, a Black Vulture. I like their headdress, it looks rather sophisticated. Although with their dining habits, it would seem like an oxymoron to call a black vulture sophisticated.
The Black Bellied Whistling Ducks are back!! At least ten of them flew in yesterday evening, whistling and carrying on. That's the most we've seen and heard at one time. I hope they stay nearby again this year. I'm going out this morning to see if I can hear them. Maybe I'll get some pictures.
