I like growing a few peppers from seed, usually try new varieties each year, both hot and sweet.

Peppers take awhile to get going but most of them love our heat. Hurray!

Giant Marconi (sweet pepper) growing in a pot surprised me with a couple of peppers already.

You can get such variety when you order seeds and do your own. Much more so than buying plants at the local nursery.

Definitely, Rita! Plus the reward of watching the seeds you sow yourself come to life and grow into food you can eat, makes the experience even more enjoyable, I think.

Although I have to admit, I rarely buy seeds anymore but rather join the seed swaps here and trade with other growers. It's so much fun and there's always so many wonderful seeds!!! Rita, if you haven't joined any seed swaps, you should give it a try!! Way cheaper than buying them every year and really fantastic seed selection! Thumbs up Thumbs up

None of my Japanese Peppers have flowers yet or even flower buds. I do know that once they start they just keep on going. Lots of blooming and many, many peppers.

Can't wait for them to start.

I had to weed my pepper patch today - I purchased new straw for mulching this year, it had an abundance of leftover wheat seed heads in it apparently. It looked like I had seeded lawn instead of mulched garden.

Takii Ace - all have set pepper (any plurals are disappearing whether from pest or other cause undetermined). This looks like it has stunted their vegetative growth, they are the 2nd smallest plants in the garden.
Carmen are blooming, Big Red are blooming, Sweet Banana are blooming and may have some peppers set. Lipstick has buds, Tricked You Fauxlapeno has buds. The Zavory Fauxbanero are the smallest plants but they've got the whorls of leaves that look ready to spring into growth, any buds are too small to see.

I hate when the straw has seed heads and starts growing grass!!

Well, you are in zone 5 and ahead of me in zone 6. I just got some flowers afew days ago and certainly don't have any peppers set yet.

Rita, if you're in zone 6 you should be ahead of me, since I'd have a later last frost and an earlier first frost. But this has been a year, winter until mid-april, two weeks of spring, then summer on and off in May. And I start my peppers early trying to coax a bit more out of them. Not sure it helps.

Yes, sure has been a crazy spring. But I am sure now that it is finally warm that my peppers will do great.

Excited to find this place!

I am growing jalapeƱos right now since we can't get them in Japan. So far they are babies but they are doing pretty well. The pictures aren't in order but the top one is one I took this weekend.

Pepper bed=

Pepper plants still really small. I checked last years records and by 6/30 I had harvested a nice batch of peppers already. So I doubt I will have any this year in two weeks from now.

What do you attribute that to? Later starting the plants? Later planting them? Weather? Just curious here. Shrug!

A cold spring here this year. Not today as we at last have real summer weather. I don't think I got my peppers planted any later than last spring but they were smaller plants at the time of setting them out.

They are growing and doing well just that they probably will produce slightly later. Oh well, I have many pepper plants. I am sure I will end up with lots of peppers.

Peppers here are behind by several weeks, too. Cool temperatures at planting time followed immediately by very hot weather. Double whammy. Just now the plants are beginning to grow. One doggone Sweet Banana pepper if you don't count the one inch bell on a two inch plant.

I agree, I'm sure your peppers will take off. It seems that when the heat maxes out, my peppers take off. I do know your growing season is shorter but here I just don't even feel pressured. Mine just went in a raised bed last weekend and are starting to offer blooms.

I'm growing two types I've never tried before... Hungarian Boldog and Ashe County pimento. Looking forward to sampling. Whistling

Well I pulled out and bagged and trashed this nasty looking pepper plant. Took a picture of it first though. Don't know what's wrong with it and rather just get rid of it just in case it is something spreadable.

Thumb of 2018-06-23/Newyorkrita/7fd6dc

It was in my main pepper bed.
