I think the eyes look good! That's a clever idea to do the earrings, too.

You know, what always amazes me, these dolls all of a sudden take on some sort of personality. The addition of that little skort seems to have done that.
I think I learned a lot of little construction tricks while getting her together.

The most complex amigurumi I've done was a donkey for my nieces/nephew last year (my sister has a miniature donkey who had a baby, and I made the colors match). It's fun seeing all those rounds of stitches take shape.

I forgot to take a picture of them once they were done, but here's the one I did take of the 'fro

And their inspiration, baby Eclipse standing next to her momma

They ended up being much larger than I expected, but that was fun too. Fun fact: donkey gestation lasts anywhere from 12-14 months. My sister didn't know Cookie was pregnant when she got her, and went outside the week of the Eclipse last year and there was a baby donkey!

Your doll is amazing, @Ursula! Good job! I love her shoes.

I took 2 of my octopus with me on vacation, plus extra ball of yarn. I managed to make 1.5 tentacles is all. Rolling on the floor laughing Aren't vacations supposed to be relaxing? We were too busy to relax!! In fact, we missed out on stuff cuz we had to sleep!!!

But, but, crocheting is so relaxing? Smiling It is certainly nice to have something fun to do when you are stuck somewhere, like a delayed flight or something.

I mentioned that I wasn't that happy with the eyes on my doll, so, after giving it some thought, I super carefully removed them. I did well, there isn't a mark on the face, whew! I think I will crochet some sort of practice head to play with eye construction. Embroider them directly on to the head versus crocheting the eyes first, then stitching them on.

Here are the new eyes and also eyebrows in addition. There is a bit of a 'pixel problem' when trying to stitch the eyebrows, but then people's eyebrows aren't perfect either ? Smiling

We embroider eyes on our octopuses before closing up the head/body. Mainly they don't want babies to be able to grab on to added on threads an such. The embroidery is tightly knotted behind so that it can't be pulled out, too.

Cheryl, that makes sense. The eyes I made can certainly be pulled on, but they are well anchored. I am glad I am making this for an adult! Smiling I should add, this is certainly a lot easier.

Thanks Sara, I am happier with them too. I knew they just weren't really right, these I like better. They are still large, but on purpose, and the white creates the oval.
I better write it down!!!

@gardenglory Pam, they are stuffed "hard as a rock " for a few reasons: 1) the Preemies seem to like the weight of them, 2) they soften during the sanitizing process, 3) holes will become visible. "No Holes" in stitches are vitally important so tiny fingers dont get stuck inside and so stuffing doesnt come out of the head. ** you do all face feature embroidery at Round 14, before you start decreasing, tying the ends securely so the embroidery cant be pulled out by tiny fingers.

Look at this creativity! The color changes and features were safely crocheted in.
