do you not have a problem with reseeding of MGs? I do. I love them but then I get them in the wrong places and too many.

The only MG's I've tried were "Star of Yelta". I loved the blooms: they looked liek they had a glowing light bulb hidden at the base of each throat.

They didn't reseed - perhpas the cinstant drizzle helped them rot. Certainly it was toguh to collect seeds in fall: more like collecting musy MG pudding.

Also, I was still amending that soil in that bed and turned it 12" deep while adding compost etc. Now i have some perennials there, and MGs might reseed if I tired again.

However, that MG spread the first year, worse that indeterminate tomatoes! It covered the bed horizontally, and zoomed right up to the top of the support I built for it. I kept winding wandering tentacles back into the trellis to keep it from invading the Sudetenland.

Big plant!

I haven't seen many MG's grown on purpose around here. We do have some wild types that spring up in odd places--well, no so odd I guess as they're at the bases of some of the evergreen windbreaks that the birds tend to flit in and out of.

My mom used to grow them on a string and nail trellis to help shade our front porch when I was a kid in Connecticut. Really pretty.

I'm finding Leonurus varieties are breaking up areas of soil that have been compact and hard to work with. Every year now I grow more just to see how much it is helping. Pretty sure it is working!

I think I still have some seeds I got from someone at the Yvonne's Salvia yahoo group--please don't sign up there now--its long since become an unmonitored spam factory and my email contacts were snatched somehow after I responded to one post about 8 months ago. I'll have to look for them...

Snort. Rain indeed! They keep promising, "oh 90% chance of thunderstorms and rain for the next 2 days." Riiiiight! Not enough to moisten a postage stamp (back in the days when you had to lick them Hilarious! ) grump!

We finally had rain a few days ago, about 0.5", and again today. This should help a lot. We hadn't had rain in forever, and temps have been in the 90 to 100° range.

Yes, I'm refilling my bird bath with cold water twice every day. Birds are in there splashing all day, and they empty the thing fast.

Between yesterday and today, we had a few pop up thunderstorms that delivered almost 2" of rain Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
It's the first rain we've had since beginning of June. Everything is so happy! So far, our city is one of the few that doesn't have watering bans, but it looks really bleak for the farmers out here in Indiana. It's really pretty sad....when I flew in from vacation a couple of weeks ago, all you could see were brown plots where there should be green corn and soybeans. Even the trees are starting to drop their leaves....nothing will be left by fall if this continues as predicted.

Lisianthus for me too. I love their "rose" form. My "Silverllight" crashed, so no pictures until I fix this.
