I couldn't figure out where to put this. This is one of my greenhouse tropical hibiscus blooms. It's Rosa sinensis 'Nizhoni'. This is a photo from a year or so ago. The color in the photo was true to life. This one bloomed in warm weather.
Now it just bloomed and this is exactly what it looked like. We have had freezing weather and snow, and it's been darker and gloomy outside. The greenhouse got down to 55F. Do you think cold weather could have made it look like this?
Have any of you who grow Hibiscus ever had such color changes? I didn't expect this to bloom like this last bloom. I never knew that temperatures could change colors so much.
There are some color changing Hibiscus and weather can impact the color. It's interesting to me that you are seeing the difference with the seasonal change. I'm not familiar with this cultivar, but I would normally expect is to see it open like the red one and change to the yellow by afternoon.
Here is Creole Lady that I had a couple of years ago, the colors are similar the yours.
What a great article, Jay. I guess most of mine don't change color. Most come open and stay the same color til they die. This one was a shocker for me. I had seen it pale yellow and pale orange, but never this deep coloration.
I had a bad winter. The cooler mornings and shorter days kind of made me neglect my plants so I lost about 13 to root rot since I wasn't moving them into the sun everyday. I'm wondering if it was the potting soil i used because most of the older ones I had didn t get it. Anyway I'm on a hibiscus buying break. Just going to enjoy what I have right now.
