I tried Butterfly Peas (Clitoria ternatea) in past years and I guess our nights are too cold, so no blooms. This year I set it up in the greenhouse and it bloomed! Thought the blooms would be blue. 1st cluster bloomed, lots of buds. Should look nice once the other buds open

Very pretty, but are you sure it's Clitoria ternatea? The flower shape is significantly different http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bi... and they aren't in clusters. The leaves are not the same from what I can see from your photo.

Are you sure it isn't Lathyrus latifolius, the Perennial Sweet Pea? http://www.missouriplants.com/...

Just wondering as my Clitorea ternatea doesn't look at all like yours. Shrug!

That's what the seed package says from Thompson & Morgan. Maybe the wrong seeds are in the package? I guess that could happen Hilarious!

Hilarious! Wouldn't surprise me!

Here are a couple of mine from this AM. The blue one has quickly become one of my faves.

That was my thought, too! A run away reactor. It actuyally surprised me several times that they didn't glow in the dark.

I had luck with this plant one year, and have not been successful since.
Yours is doing well this summer.
Next year I am going to try again with the variety which has variegated leaves.
The seeding needs to experience cold before they will germinate.

Lovely flowers in this thread - should it be in the new forum?

Joanne, or any one that grows them, have you tried starting the black eyed Susan vines from seeds? The only year I grew one it was from the nursery and spread like crazy. I've got a pkg of seeds and am wondering if it's best to start them inside or plant outside?

I always started mine inside ... and they grew so fast I had to try and keep them from tangling into each other.. bet that would be a good direct sow seed
