Do you have experience growing this plant?

This will be my second try. (My first attempt might have been doomed from the start since the potted plant arrived very soggy with a bit of black on its leaves to suggest rot had already set in. Shrug! )

The plant I just received looks to be in fine condition so far, any tips on keeping it that way?

I've read that this plant likes a lot of morning sun and perhaps afternoon shade?

Chelle, in my garden they are in full sun. The roots will rot on a wet place. They are also easy to grow from seed.

Thanks, Jonna. Thumbs up

I had no idea that they were easy to grow from seed! I'd much rather grow a plant that way whenever possible, they seem to adapt better than transplants grown elsewhere.

Do you think that I should wait to plant it until after our last frost date?

Good to know, Jonna. I just received this plant from a TN wildflower nursery and will be planting it very soon.
I garden for the pollinators.

Chelle, I don't think you'll have to wait until after your last frost date, they are quite hardy. In mild winters they are even evergreen. I planted some seedlings last autumn and they survived -20°C without a snowcover and stayed green!. The older plants got brown leaves, but are sprouting now again. Just give the plant a bit of time to get used to the climate. I don't know in which circumstances your plant was raised.
Try to save seed. The plants are not soo big and I'm sure you want to grow some more.

Thanks, again!

I'm letting them acclimate on the protected deck for a bit before I plant them....on a cloudy day, of course! Big Grin I'm sure that I will want more, so if they live and bloom I will definitely try to save some seed.

Mine seed themselves all over the garden. They are in full sun to full dappled shade and don't seem to care one way or the other. These are from the heifer pasture next to the house and are happily growing in all the fields around us.

I love the stuff. Don't know if the four clusters I had survived last summer. Guess I'll see. They did prefer afternoon shade in this area. (What doesn't? Whistling Hilarious! )

Had some for several years and loved it. Hated it when it died out or was sprayed accidentally. Not sure what happened, but I suspect the latter.

Nope, it is sheltering under a rose bush. Sticking tongue out But is in the one small area of the yard that is actually sandy soil.

Ah! Thank you!

I may end up planting mine in an area that doesn't get much supplemental water. Your rose does okay there? Maybe the relationship between the two is the ticket, with the rose taking up most of the extra water.
