I think this is hvx....but looking for some other opinions since I'm still learning about it and the test strips are pretty darned expensive.

It doesn't look right at all...BUT we also had several sudden cold snaps and late, late, late frost, almost to the end of June, and Atlantis was the first hosta up and most vigorous grower.

I thought perhaps it was the terrible spring we had.

It was fine last year but I got it and a couple others before knowing about hvx.

It's definitely textured weirdly. I got it at Kent which is a big-box competitor to home improvement stores like Home Depot/Lowe's but locally owned.

Of course it was large enough I split it immediately so it's in 2 spots but I haven't touched it since putting it in so I have moved it and put something else in its place at least Sighing!

The tag is a common supplier around here.

It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures, but are the bits of green in the margin sunken tissue? Are they visible from both sides of the leaves? If so, there's a good chance it is HVX, but if you could get your hands on a test strip, it would be good. Are you on Facebook? If so, there is a group for Hosta Diseases with some very knowledgeable people there as well. You might consider posting them there as well.

thanks...good to know there's a group on FB. it is sunken tissue.

i actually went to a hosta farm today and took a leaf with me and he confirmed it. i'm so darned mad. but i've got a plan for the 2 spots where Atlantis currently are. thankfully i wasn't TOO attached to these ones but still a bummer. now i just need to watch for signs on the others i guess!

agreed. i got 7 lovely new hostas, though, so some consolation. Clovelly, Captain's Adventure, Blue Flame, Lemon Frost (because of your gorgeous border of them, Ann!), Rainbow's End, Trifecta, and Vivacious.
