Just my personal point of view, but I do think it's a lot easier to clean up cat poo than dog poo. Even tho' we do have a leash law up here, it's never enforced. We don't have enough law enforcement personnel to deal with much more serious problems.

I had great success last year with the Milorganite. They hate the smell and so do the rabbits. Also this stuff is a great organic slow release low dose fertilizer and you can reapply after every couple of rains. All my plants love it especially the Hostas and Daylilies. I even mix some in with my potting soil. Thumbs up

(someone mentioned before that dogs seem to be attracted to the Milorganite, I am not sure what that means because I do not have a dog, do they dig or just pee-pee? I do not know. *Blush* )

Guess, I won't be using it. We have a lot of critters up here. If some like it and others don't .... well, I just don't want to find out which is which .... Hilarious!

Think I will try it. Don't have a loose-dog depositing problem, just the feral cats.
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

Millorganite can't be used on food plants because it contains remnants of human waste. Dogs are dogs.

It will not burn plants and is considered great for vegetables.

Milorganite is organic and they rave about how good the tomatoes do.

Thank you for the links. Hurray!
I never even thought to wonder what Milorganite was and now I know.
I'll be spreading some along the perimeter of the property to deter cats.

Hilarious!

Same reason I do not grow cat nip. I am not looking to make new friends.

@crittergarden ... I've read the same thing about millorganite somewhere. They may have changed the formula. Happens all of the time.

@virginiarose ...... the critters that may or may not like millorganite up here are not simply the feral cats and dogs, altho' they are a problem, too. I am more concerned about attracting foxes, coyotes and more. I live in an old gold mining town in the midst of a forest. I am not ready to put down bait for anything because sometimes you really do not want to come face-to-face with what might decide to visit your property. Smiling

Interesting. My friend was talking about her WWII age father using it on their lawn.

After I posted, I remembered that a couple of other people we were with had agreed with her.

Maybe they DID change the formula.....

I have an email out to her asking for clarification.

Maybe they confused it with biosolids (which are composted and then used in urban bagged compost like Cedar Grove compost.

Tested, composted Class A biosolids are also spread on many farms, with regulatory controls.

I thought the first Milorganite link was a little coy about whether "wastewater" included sewage, but the part that I thought would resolve most peoples' concerns was:

"subsequently dried in twelve rotary driers at temperatures ranging from 900⁰ - 1200⁰F. Any surviving pathogens are killed from the extreme hot temperatures."

At 900F, I would think so.

But personally, now that human biosolids from sewage treatment plants are tested for pathogens and heavy metals, I wouldn't hesitate to add them to my compost heap and then use that compost on vegetables. It's another part of "the circle of life".

YES, that's exactly what I was told it was. A byproduct from the sewage company. And they were speaking of their parents using it on their lawns. IN THE 60s and 70s. I doubt the method was improved by then.

Okay, I was still confused so looked for more info.

Here is a link to a very wordy explanation for this....um, need a polite word for....
anyway, I got tired of reading this article about halfway through, but an authority on the subject, she's a Ph.D. and professor at the U of Washington in Seattle says that biosolids are safe.

And she should know because her name is Brown.

Yes, I believe the current "biosolids" are safe. I think Milorganite earned its "unsafe" reputation before current production practices had evolved.
