We had a moderate thunderstorm but it had some pretty bad hail in it, too. I stood in the back door to make this picture. It looks strange because the rain and the hail were so hard that the water is actually flowing with the hail mixed in with it. It also put about an inch in the tops of my daylily pots.

Yes it melted within minutes since our temps were around 65. I'll post some pictures of after the storm shortly. I'm guessing but I would say we got 3 to 4 inches of rain and hail in 20 minute. It rained as hard as I've seen in a long time. That's the reason for the small river of water and hail mixed. I don't think we had any tornados around last night. It wasn't that bad around our house but boy did it hail and rain. If the wind had blown it would have been worse.

Nothing was damaged to the point of killing it but it sure did mess up all the newborn leaves on the trees.

More later, Mona

The daylilies will bounce back in no time and in a couple of weeks you'll never know they had been hit by hail.

Mona, here's some photos you wanted of the daylilies we brought back for the club. They sure would love some rain to help them settle in, but you can keep your hail Green Grin!

I just found out on the 10pm news tonight how blessed we were last night. About 5 miles from our house they had hail bigger than a golf ball for over 2 hours. OVER 2 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!! Ours only lasted about 30 minutes so I can not even think about how bad it would have been for 2 hours and bigger than a golf ball would have been about 5 times bigger than ours.

They were out this morning, some 7 hours after it fell and it was still piled up in the ditches where it accumilated so much. They showed this on tv. Ours was gone in less than 15 minutes. Man, I sure hope that person was bumping up the amount of time it fell because I would have been a screaming mess of hysteria with out tin roof and sky lights and hail for 2 hours! No bigger than it was, it sounded terrible. I'm just thankful that the wind wasn't blowing like it usually does when we have this type storm because I would have been so afraid. I hate it when the wind blows so hard because with our trees, that I love so much, it sounds like a tornado coming if it blows very hard. Yes, we had a tornado come through in 2001 so I know what it sounds like. Most scary thing I've ever been through.

So, a few tops broken out is a small thing. they'll be fine in a short time.

Now, I'm just plum jealous of that soil. I know you must water ofter, but just look at that stuff all nice and loose just waiting for you to cover up those beautiful roots. Wonderful plants.

Blessings to all, Mona

That's not my soil ( I wish ), it's one of the club members. We have dark, mucky, doesn't drain clay. Where she puts these (she always cares for the sale plants) is next to her vegetable garden. I'm sure this soil has been amended well because I don't know anyone that has naturally good soil here.

We have hail once in a blue moon and I'm so glad. I couldn't deal with golf ball size hail. I'm glad yours wasn't that big.
