KyWoods, That is exactly where I was going with that...how did you know!! Your cats are apparently better behaved than ours. Last year I planted catnip and the girls could not get enough...they wanted to lay in it too. The cage helped alot!

Dont cats realize ,if they eat the plant to the ground there wont be any more plant? Jeeeeesh. I cage my Walkers low until it gets a good head start.

Cute kitties! I want to plant catnip for them, but I never have luck with seeds. I bought a 4" pot of it at Petsmart, not realizing until after the cashier rang it up that it was SIX DOLLARS! But I hadn't seen it anywhere else, so I bought it.

I wonder if that is the reason my inside cat meows at the door. Just dying to get his paws on the Walkers Low!

Ouch on the $6 dollar catnip! Got a short story about my catnip...planted it last year and then late Fall I harvested it to dry as a winter snack for the cats. I left the stock part, which was fairly heavy, and the plant was protected enough through our mild winter that I was able to find small green growth all winter long for a "special" little treat for the cats. Crazy winter!

We have Walkers Low too...the girls still munch on it but prefer the catnip. Sometimes I grab a few snips and bring it indoors to the cats. Our kitties are indoor cats but we have them trained to come outside with us and stay in the yard (most of the time ).

The cages do help...I used to worry about some of my plants during storms and stakes did not always do a good job...and when the plant is full the cage pretty much disappears.

I'm not going to ever plant catmint here, as much as I like the way it looks when it's blooming, because I've enough problems with neighborhood cats (and there's a lease law in this county!) coming into my yard stalking the birds I feed, 'digging' in my flowerbeds, hanging around etc....

Bummer Marilyn. I totally understand your frustration. We see a few stray cats around here but they don't seem to stop in our yard thank goodness.

I use these too for taller plants, but I did not think of the cats. Should have used it on my Black Eyed Susan because I went out one morning and it was flat as a pancake. I could not figure it out but I suppose somebody else's cat wondered into my yard and found a soft place to sleep.

Hi Susan, cats love to lie on stuff. One of our cats will lie on just about anything we set down!

Good to know! I went crazy last year trying to figure out why my plants are flat. I will buy a lot more tomato cages this year. It did not happen out front and I think that was because of the milorganite. They and the rabbit did not like the smell.

Oh yeah, the wonderful smell of milorganite...that will keep just about anything away lol

Yeah, it almost keeps me away. ...I hate the smell too, but I am making myself put it down. Yuck. Plus I know what it is and that does not help either.

My husband loves it cuz it makes his yard darker green than the neighbors...they think he has a green thumb

I hope your husband gets, 'Yard of the Month'!!, I know a nice lawn means so much.
Milorganite is a good fertilizer for lawns and it's cheap too. I may stock up a bit for next year just to keep those cats away plus the rabbit, that is the reason I started buying it. Next year I will use it every where!!
