Thank you Hetty,

It's not a cultivar,the 'azureus' is a ssp.
I suppose you can't grow this one in your zone.
Although the picture is not very good, I posted it because there was no other picture of it in the Plant Database.

I've just purchased 10 seeds of this lovely vine. Nine of them have germinated in just 3 days with water soaked paper towels around them. I've just put those seedlings into soil (5 per pot) on 4/17/21. I hope they get going for me. Am keeping the pots indoors in a bright window until all threat of night cooling to the 40's has passed on. Then I'll acclimate them slowly outside a few hours in morning sun each day. I'm in Central TX, so I want to harden them off in a week or so, before it gets too hot here. I want to eventually house them in two wicker baskets that I hang on the arms of my 3-globe lamp post in the front yard. As a vine, they should drip over the basket edge nicely. In the bed below, there will be Giant Liriopes, Lamb's ear and a bit of Purple Heart.

Peggy ~ How did that work out for you? I am sowing some seeds now, for next spring bloom. I have an extra packet of seeds. They are old, but since I am direct sowing, I won't bother to pre-soak them first. They will get plenty of moisture between now and then. Let me know if you'd like to try them.

They all germinated, Evelyn, but after they came up, the vines were like thin hairs and I only got 2 blooms. The plants all died off in our oppressive summer heat despite regular watering. They never toughened up into the sturdy little plants regular sweet peas get to be. Too puny for Texas summers, for sure. I don't think I want to try them again. They'll likely like California weather better than ours. Thanks for the offer though, as I love all things blue. But as with blue delphiniums, I've learned to stick with what works in Texas heat and drought, and many blue flower favorites just seem to do poorly here. Sad

Peggy ~ Would you be willing to try sowing them now? I had the same problem with regular sweet peas when sowing them in spring. They did horrid in late spring and gone the minute summer hit. The L. sativus does not get as tall as regular sweet peas.

Years ago, I sowed them in fall and had splendid results.

Yes, I'm always game for trying a fail a second time. If I weren't, I'd have given up on rooting crepe myrtles years ago. Smiling I finally succeeded at rooting some red ones just this year after many attempts! Send me any spare seeds you have, @evelyninthegarden. Can't hurt to give it a second shot. Smiling

It was an interesting read, Lathyrus sativus. Grass Pea.

Since they don't grow very tall, you might want to sow some in a pot or color bowl. The people in India grow it with no trouble at all...even in drought times or flooding, too. I don't have the link now, but you can Google it for more information. The seeds I have are not fresh, so they may not germinate. I just got some new ones from Ronnie (LUVSGREATDANES).I'll send you some of those, too, if you like.

Right now, I want to go outside and sow more seeds but I have come down with a horrible cold.
Still, the weather is nice, so I may anyway. ( Maybe...)🤧

Hope you get to feeling better soon, @evelyninthegarden. Colds are such a bummer any time of year. When you're feeling better, send me those older seeds. Some will likely germinate and it's worth a try.
