Carol, you got my attention with this! I'm assuming this is for green growth? Have you tried it on your tomatos? Mine are looking much like you described in another thread, but I also have some cuttings I'm trying to get started. What is the best source of potassium nitrate?

Carol, when you root the cuttings, do you wait the same amount of time before harvesting?

LOL - I was speaking of other cuttings, Melissa...not asparagus Green Grin! Potassium nitrate is simply high nitrogen and high potassium - no phosphate so it's only for root and plant growth. I have to say that it really perked up the asparagus and it is growing very well, with thicker stalks coming in. I think I am going to stick to foliar feeding them this way to avoid acidifying the soil.

I've found that my miserable looking tomatoes are due to Powdery Mildew and Rust: we haven't had summer yet!!! and it has been raining a whole lot ( 60" + so far this year) which is normal, but usually we have warmer days and the rain only at night. I replanted new tomatoes and the same fate befell them as well. I even have rust on my Swiss Chard.
It's all about choices.

Just discovered this thread and am so excited about my dozen asparagus roots, it's year 2 and the little row is abundantly producing even this late in the season. And I only picked one spear, I'm being good. They are tied to the fence because after a while the tall ferns flop over. In front are some coleus and speedwell to dress it up. Next year I can harvest a bit. I credit success to the rich compost of oak leaves and kitchen scraps that I put down last year when I first planted the roots. Will put down a more compost next time I get inspired.
