DR Wisperer, great!

And go ahead and tie an orchid to a tree, Jim, they like trees. If you get a beauty from a grower, then it's been coddled and babied to the Nth degree, so when you take it home, an orchid, I mean, it still expects perfect treatment. CONFESSION:::: I have two orchids from a friend that moved away. One is light and dark purple, a Dendrobium, that blooms in flushes quite nicely, and it's slightly fragrant. Dendrobiums and Vandas like trees, and do bloom a lot.

Edited for Jim, there's a forum here, go look:

The thread "Our Orchid blooms in April 2012" in Orchids forum

the whole shebang---

One poster there lives in Odessa, Florida, where's that??

Good morning everyone! Well, I took a neighbor with me and we "schlepped"to homestead, I entered the wrong address into my GPS and ended up at some large airport Hilarious! It took me another hour to find my way;but it was well worth it, to my surprise Hetty was there. It was great meeting you Hetty. The owners are wonderful folks and I got a tour of the whole place. Another great surprise was that I got my D.R. and it has a large seed pod that is very near to opening. The owner gave me great instructions for a back way home that had me going past a zillion nursery's many of which had signs out "Orchids $3.00" , I took that as a sign from above that I needed to get an orchid. I bought two, my neighbor 4. It was a wonderful day and I came home exhausted. The booty is laying on my porch for now, it's raining hard, so I guess they have to wait for me to settle them where I want them. Here I go again with seeds (from the D.R.pod) I'll spend the day preparing trays, potting mix etc and get ready for them.

Doris, it's a black asia, it was sold to me with a metal name tag, at least I shouldn't forget the name of the thing now, oh and it was sitting among a very large group of black asia's so just maybe I'll get a pretty neat flower from the seed assuming it was pollenated by another black asia!

Hi.

Jim, it sounds like you had a great time in Homestead. Good for you! And meeting Hetty in person... what can I say? That is grand, too. Enjoy your new acquisitions and maybe the beginning of a secondary orchid addiction.

Take care, all.
Sylvain.

Sylvain, I'm going to try very very hard not to get an orchid addiction. But while I was there I saw the most beautiful plumara (spelled wrong blame Dragon) now if I only had the land I could easily get addicted to those, heaveans they were beautiful.

Jim, plumerias are fun and easy to grow. My first plumerias were cuttings obtained from friends and neighbors. I have quite a few growing around the house and I have given many to neighbors, too. I have a few cuttings I could let you have, if you wish. Some plumerias lose their leaves during the winters; others don't. The plant knows what it must do.

Sylvain, I wonder if I said the correct name? The owner of the place mentioned that it requires a lot of room! The ones I saw were huge and just so beautiful in full bloom. Anyway Thank You but I think I'll pass. I have a feeling I'm getting too Deep into things and am beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed with the thought of the work ahead.

This is awfully wet weather for adeniums. I may have to move them under the carport if things don't let up. Three inches, 4 1/2 inches, the fact remains that it's too much for them. I had a rain gauge when I lived in Lauderhill, but it got stolen. People will steal anything. It was no big loss because it never agreed with the weatherman's statistics.

Luckily, the adeniums' pots are lifted off the cement slab so excess water can drain right away and air can circulate under them. I'll let them dry thoroughly before I water them again.

Good morning all; another half inch of rain last night! And your right Sylvain, seldom is the weather guy right. Charleen from the looks of that last desert rose you posted maybe it's a good thing yoiur in a dry spell, most of mine are starting to look the same way, mine for the most part aren't in pots so I can't move them, but they will survive they've been thru this before. My orchids are still
sitting on the porch screaming save me save me Sad I hope the flowers don't fall off before I can get them where I want them.

When I got up at 6:15 this morning, rain was falling horizontally. The drops were the size of egg yolks. It felt like firemen were hosing down the house. I kid you not.

It let up quite a bit. Now, it's only raining heavily and the drops fall at 45 degrees from vertical. I'll be cutting up garbage bags to cover the top of my adenium pots, so the rain drips away from the soil. I thought of moving them under the car port but my back is doing well these days... so, no heavy lifting and carrying for this gardening polar bear. Strangely enough, the adeniums never seem toenjoy beingmoved, either. I'll settle for keeping the rain away from the soil for the next few days.

Take care, all.
Sylvain.

Jim, if the seedpod is old enough to open, and the rain penetrates, the seeds might easily start growing while still in the pod! I saw that on the Yahoo group, the lady had to hurry and plant 85 seeds. hahaha I covered a seedpod recently, a baggie-- not tight, and into some shade so to not make a little baking-hot greenhouse for the pod. Just pink seeds, so I won't bother to share. I have ppods forming on a Double Santa, so if and when they're ready, I'll share here...

Hilarious! growing in the pod just like that huh! Gee all the time and effort I put in on the last seed pod and all I needed to do is just let it alone! The asia black is on my porch, it may get a slight spray if the wind is right, but I'm watching it closely. It's being foretasted that we are in for a few more days of rain, it won't be long before I'm complaining of no rain,so let it rain. All and I mean all of my D.R. in the ground are looking poorly but they will survive. How's your weather Melissa.
