Richard - poor baby! All of our dogs got nervous with fireworks noise (thunderstorms are RARE here), but not Warp. He just looks interested and gets excited - which also makes me wonder if someone tried (badly) training him to be a bird dog.

In my family, I'M the one with all the allergies, so no kitties. (And with apologies to all the cat lovers - they ARE beautiful and graceful creatures - I don't care for some of their behaviors, and I don't need more stress in my life.)
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Lestv said: I used to have a cat who would catch and eat wasps and such if they got in the house. She would jump, and bounce off the wall and catch the wasp in the air with her mouth and then eat it. I always wondered how she did it without ever having any stings making her mouth swell up. Obviously they had no affect on her as she lived for 19.5 years.

We had a black Lab that would do the same thing. Nary a whimper! I don't know if this cat is immune to wasps and yellowjackets. I guess that WE will find out. If they do sting inside her mouth, I think it could be very serious. We have set some traps out for them now.

Marilyn, i felt bad for her cause she got so scared. I would do what I could. Which was usually go to a small area pretty much inclosed and hold her. When it was not raining she was way different.

I love this photo. My parents had a large platform suspended from the garage ceiling for storage. Our cats used to jump on dad's car to get to the platform. There were always paw prints on the windscreens and we had to check if the cats were up there before we drove anywhere so they wouldn't get stuck up there.

This is my cat Oscar. He loves chasing butterflies, rats and small lizards around my garden and destroys my plants trying to catch them. The plants I care about are planted in the front yard because Oscar spends most of his time in my back yard.

Lilli - Cuddles was a big boy! And very handsome. I love that he could reach up and give you kisses. That's awesome.

Keep the kitty pics coming! They are just adorable!!

Richard - Poor little girl! I think you're strategy is good - I'm sure being in a small room with you is comforting. We had a kitty who was sensitive to loud noises. Wren is not. We live on a somewhat busy street where emergency vehicles, trucks with multiple ladders or trailers are quite common. She's never reacted to lightning or fireworks either. I'm guessing it's due to all the loud noises she heard as a puppy.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a Labrador that doesn't like water. But snow, that's a different story! She loves it!

Richard, one of our dogs (a Black Lab/GSD mix) would climb into the bathtub and hide behind the shower curtain when the Fourth of July fireworks went off. (When we were getting all of those aftershocks after Loma Prieta, I'd open the refrigerator door and he'd try to climb in! Blinking We had to block off the fireplace, because he tried climbing in there, too!)

Robin, your cat sounds about like Warp when it comes to unintended consequences of hunting in the garden! (My poor, poor Iberis.... the lizards must really like hiding in there...)

Shorty caught a grasshopper today. I am not sure what happened afterward, as she was playing with it for a long time. Maybe she ate it? It had pretty orange and black "wings".

I've been enjoying this thread - thanks to everyone for sharing photos of their pets. My wife and I currently don't have any (rental property with restrictions), but when I was growing up my family had cats and dogs.

This is my cat "Kitty Kat" many years ago, aged about 10 and 16 (I think). She was a beautiful tortoiseshell farm cat who lived to the age of 18 and a half. She was the matriach of the cat family, having several litters when she was young, and didn't tolerate the dogs getting too close either (despite that, she had a lovely temperament). She even survived a snake bite when she was only a year or two old (hence the scar on her face, under her right eye).

This is one of her grandchildren that we kept, named "Lucky". She was a gorgeous, pure ginger female; although very shy and scared of the dogs. Eventually she disappeared - we think she found a new home, as not long before she disappeared permanently she ran off for several months and came back looking well-fed and healthy.

I miss my cats and hope to have another one again someday when my wife and I have our own property.

Aussie doodles. I'm curious - do they have the herding instinct of an Aussie? Handsome dogs, by the way.
