I was happily watching a nice little first spike opening on a Dendrobium, bought in Jan 2010 as Den griffithianum. Looking up the correct spelling just now, I realized that griffithianum is yellow! Seems to me that I probably bought Dendrobium farmeri?
I like the almost square growth on this Dendrobium, which is why I had bought it in the first place.

Reminds me of sunny side up eggs. What a healthy plant and I should know since I spent the morning cleaning scale off of plants close to the windows on a few shelves. The bugs hide from me but I can see them when I go outside and look in!

Great group shot Bree, they are beauties.

Dendrobium egg 'Sunny Side Up', very nice.

My old NOID paph, the upper bloom on its last legs opened on Christmas day.

Doritaenopsis I-Hsin Sesame, from local nursery a couple weeks ago, blooms open with pale yellow background and they fade to white. When I googled this plant I could hardly find any two that looked the same.

Ken, looking good! Yes, I took a double take on the March 27. 2010 for the 7. bloom, that is a long time.
I like the Dtps. very much.

Kathy, about the buggy situation - I don't know what the reason is in my case - perhaps increasingly more Orchids, or not having treated the whole collection last Fall, or not quarantining new plants, but I find more Mealies or Scale than usual this year. Not easy at all trying to stay on top of it!
I spent some time looking for the source of a sort of ( still mild, but annoying) fruit-fly outbreak. I washed all the trays and scrubbed the channels on the glass panes, which collect a bit of water and will turn green with algae. ( I usually clean them every 2 months during the Winter)
Then, after receiving a tip about old Sphagnum being the culprit, I found the source. It was a Bulbo still in its original Sphagnum, I had simply moved into a different dish without taking it apart. It is now mounted! And hopefully no more dancing tiny flies by afternoon.

Wow, I love that Slc. Newberry 'Elf', Kathy. Next time we go I will have to see if Roger has another one of those.

Ursula, you have a lot of stunning plants blooming...I especially love the 'Spring Best'

I am finding that I am still most attracted to the Catts. I LOVE that graceful, white skinneria 'Debbie', Kathy. Some of my other favorites are Jim's Den. nobile hybrid and the William Farrel x Schomb. Bree, you seem to have a lot of great Catts!

April seems like a pretty big month for blooms! I am still waiting for my Epc. Siam Jade 'AVO' bud to open. I can't wait to post pictures.

I'm working crazy hard putting in a big cycad garden. 6 more yards of mulch to haul and spread and then put back and arrange the potted plants, mostly cyms. I just got the call today. They start demo on the existing pool cage this Wednesday and then we are off and running. Tomorrow, in addition to the mulch and such, I have to find new homes for all the orchids, palms, bromeliads, and patio furniture. I really want to be here Wednesday to supervise but am comitted to work the garden information booth at the EPCOT International Flower Show up in Orlando. I will post when I get a moment. I thought I retired??

Hi all, I have been enjoying all the posts in the background lately. I am constantly amazed by the quantity, quality, and diversity of the collections in this group.
I spent the last couple of weeks arranging to move my Mom from Modesto (about 100 miles away) to an convalescent facility here in the Bay Area. Makes it a lot easier to visit her now. One of the bands I play in has been working quite a bit, and that means we need to add new songs and practice a lot, so, time has been tight. I finally had some time this evening to sit down for a minute before I go and find the last info for our TAXES(Yikes). Here's what happening in my greenhouse and yard this month:
