Well I had a first bloom on Archaeopteryx this year and it didn't look anything like catalog pics. I will post a pic when it blooms again.

Natalie said:I'm really curious about the color though. It looks like the one on his site, but the color is totally different. So many hybridizers post pictures that don't really match the true color, though I'm not saying that this is the case here. Both are stunning, but I'd love to know which one is more accurate! I know that most of my pictures don't turn out even close to what the flower looks like, but I'm lousy at taking pictures!

This morning's poly was taken @ 6:30 am and the 6/31 picture taken @ 8 AM is the FFOE so we will see how color develops. . I have around 25 of Paul's and so far his pictures have been spot on. New or not, this year has brought lighter colors than last and every bloom of Purple Cheetah is missing its cheetah like spots and much paler than last. I'm assuming it's the heatwave which will slap you down by 7 a.m.

Here's Angelus Blue Skies with a poly. My husband said it looked like a Christmas ornament.

Welcome to ATP, Shive1. I agree with your husband that ABS does look like an ornament and a beautiful one at that. I donated 25 acorns to you for badges.

So many pretty ones!
When you have a question if a bloom is a double or a poly you can count the stamen. A poly will have a stamen for each tepal, A double will only have the 6. If the extra tissue is attached to a stamen I'd bet on it being a double as that's how alot of the petaloid doubles are formed.

I've found that photos taken early morning have a bluish cast. The same flower looks different in pics taken later day.

Last night I noticed Light of the World had a poly, but flower had really melted. Not sure what it's trying to do today.

Hey thanks Stephanie. LOTW must have decided to get its act together when I tagged it for removal with flagging tape. It's always opened with a muddy buff color self. I should try the flagging tape trick on some others and see if they get it together.
