They are really almost done now but what a year they had. I have never had so many blooms just that it went by too quickly.

Your irises are absolutely gorgeous, Rita -- Can't get over the incredible depth of color your blooms have! And I agree about the iris season being too short -- sure wish something could be done about that! But your daylilies should be starting any time now. Do you have any scapes yet?

Betty, I do have scapes and it seems that each morning when I go look I find more scapes. The daylily bloom season should start quite early here this year. Seems like we are all early here along the east coast.

I don't do anything to the iris to get the color, that is just the way they look. But if a bloom is muddy or washed out looking to me, I get rid of it because I do like very dramatic color in my iris.,

The Tall Beared are about done, only a few blooming. There are lots of Siberians blooming now. I have this section in my front yard were I planted Sibs and crammed in all I could fit. It has taken afew years to fill in but finially this year starting to look like what I envisioned when I planted them. Some views of the area.

No, not really. I have grassy paths and I have some lawn along the north side. Here is a picture of my tomato garden on the north side. You can see that there is some grass.

Yes, not much to mow around here but there is a lot of string trimming.

Love that Blueberry Fudge and Circus World. And to me, although I would love it if iris bloomed all summer long, they put on an incredible show for about 6 weeks, which is quite a long time by my estimate. In fact, during a normal year ( is there such a thing?) and once my iris mature and clump up, I would expect this show to last at least 8 weeks or more. I still need to push the edges of the iris season, need a few more earlies and lates, but oh my..... I just love my iris! I think more of our 'complaints' about the 'short' iris season are because the show is almost over for this year - although I do expect reblooms for the first time, if the summer is longer than usual because it started so early. ~ Jan

I agree Jan. There aren't too many plants (perennial type) that bloom longer than Iris. Daylilies don't. Daffodils, Tulips, Crocus don't. Hardy Hibiscus don't. Hydrangea don't. Etc.

My Irises bloom for about eight weeks. Two months out of twelve isn't too bad. Smiling Especially when you consider how spectacular the bloom period is! nodding

If you start the show early with the mini's, and plant some early and late varities, you can keep the show going a while. Some of them just seem to bloom throughout the season. I love those best. This little noid just opened last week, and it's a BB I think, I love it, nice fragrance, and so lacy. Sure wish I knew it's name.
I'm wondering if some of the rebloomers that ususally don't have enough time to bloom in the fall will bloom this year, since they had an early start? I'm hoping. My Jennifer Rebecca sure tries every year, but always gets frozen off. Let's hope!

Well of the bearded iris, I only have Tall Bearded. And don't please anyone suggest I get some others because it is the tall bearded I love. So far 4 weeks of blooming and there are some still blooming. So TB iris season is not that long a period around here but oh so beauitiful.

Tom, the closest I can come to your mystery BB is CHRISTIANA BAKER by Fred Kerr. It's an award winner, and I think it is absolutely beautiful. Here's a link:

And sometimes it can be more pastel than in my pictures. What do you think?

Tom, it's a BB and maybe up to 24"-25" in my garden (I'm terrible at guessing height), but I wouldn't know about the scent. Irises are pretty pungent to me and I'm not drawn to the fragrance so I never sniff them. The only one whose fragrance I've ever noticed is AGAIN AND AGAIN when it reblooms during the winter and I'm out working in the beds, and suddenly I seem to smell -- grape juice! Oh yes, and it does bloom later in the season.

Rita, I love your Siberians! Beautiful deep colors -- I wish I could grow them here...

The Siberians are just so different from the TB. When I started in them I just started to pick what looked like pretty flowers. But I have found I really prefer the larger flowers that means these are usually tets. The dips in Siberians are by and large more dainty. And an added bonus is that the Siberian Folliage is pretty all the time. I really don't like bearded iris folliage at all.

I should buy a rhizome from you and plant it next to this one to see for sure. Mine appears to be a bit more tightly laced, but the colors seem close as far as one can tell with pictures.
