Although an exercise in patience, growing Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) bulbs from seed can be advantageous and offers the opportunity to hybridize something new, exciting and different in the world of Amaryllis.
What a great article. I had my first floating experience last fall. They germinated well and did well as long as I had them inside but when I took them out to the nursery bed in their little pots they all died, almost overnight. The leaves turned white. Any idea what happened?
Here are my seeds germinating under grow lights.

Hmmm. Usually when they turn white it is because the got too much light/sun too suddenly. When you plant this batch of seedlings, you might keep them in deep shade at first, then transition them to brighter light slowly. One of my favorite places to put a pot of new seedlings is under/inside a bush. But first I put them on my covered porch in deep shade, then the bush is next. Also try to keep them out of the wind at first - I think those thin leaf blades just cannot take too much light or wind at first. Would love to see more photos as your project progresses.
