Elaine, Nice Miltassia!
Ursula, The Aerangis is a beauty. Very soft colors.
Lindsey, Happy Birthday! Can't wait to see what you come home with tomorrow.
Cameron, glad you decided to join us! Nice Den.!

Things have cooled down here too...70s and low 60s seem to make my whole garden happier, especially orchids.

Whoa, that Black Caesar really has the intense color going on. Gorgous, and Happy Birthday, Lindsey. Wish I could meet you guys in Apopka. (I need more orchids like another hole in the head, though)

This one has opened, first bloom for me on a bare root division from Plantio this spring. The delicate pale shadings are growing on me, we'll see how it matures.

Put me down for liking that Goldenzelle cross too. Lindsey and I will be in Apopka tomorrow, perhaps we can chat with Jim Krull about it.

Elaine, I'm glad to see that flower from Graf's Gold Lake.. I bought a division of that last year and I LOVE the flower! I don't need ( or have room for) any thing either ...but I've been able to sell a few non performing plants or plants that no longer excite me and have freed up a few square inches. Who knows what treasures await tomorrow?
Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I had a lovely day at the University botanical garden today and just finished some chocolate. It doesn't get any better.

Thanks, I see Joshua has a registered name for this cross, Rlc. Graf's Gold Lake. Thanks to Joshua, too.

Thanks @Ursula!

@dyzzypyxxy Thanks! Mine was a "bag baby" too. It had a lot of dead roots and the canes were shriveled, but it finally recovered and I was so surprised to see a flower spike on it. Another cane had a spike but it turned brown for some reason? I think mine was on the clearance rack at Lowe's.

@ctcarol Thanks! I'm so glad to be here. Everyone's orchids look amazing. I'm so glad we're finally having a real Fall with lots of rain. We're expecting 40s for a low next week so I decided to bring in all of my orchids except the Den. kingianum and a Cymbidium I got last year. Thumbs up

I am the Worlds worse Paphiopedilum grower in the states. Plus I could never bloom many that I managed to keep alive.
However, in five months I am noticing a better success rate here in Michigan. My recent observations:
They do not like the heat! Nearly impossible to grow well anywhere North of 90 degrees. Perhaps they prefer 85 as a maximum.
They like a finer mix then I previously thought. I am trying seedling bark/seedling charcoal, medium aliflor and seedling sponge rock.
They like more moisture then I thought. I would water them more like a Cattleya letting them dry out between waterings. They should be watered more often like Phalaenopsis or Oncidiums.

Thanks Bill for those notes. I still do better with Phrags than with Paphs, despite watering also, but not quite, plenty.

Congrats, Carol. It is 67 degrees here this morning and everyone is airing out their houses. That was one long hot summer.

Hello! I hope you can help me. I am new to this wonderful forum. I want to share a problem I have been having with two of my orchids... the spikes grow until the buds are barely visible, then they dry out. I have seen tiny black bugs on them. What is this and how do I get rid of them? Please help!

Doly02, you have insects attacking your plants. They are thrips in all likelihood.
But you really need to supply us with more information for any of us to be sure or to have a better idea.
What USDA zone are you in?
What kind of orchid?
How often do you water, what is it growing in? These are all clues to help us diagnose the problem.
But with the proper information we can provide you with the proper solution.
