I can't put the straws on every pistil, but on the crosses I really want, it is a good protection. Trust me, it works. I have done this for a couple of years.
lilylady said:NICOLE'S STARCHASER has an interesting trait. The stippling from the eye and bleeding from the edge. Does it consistently do that?
I'm not sure if it does this all the time or not. All the blooms have looked the same to me and I've never really paid that much attention to it since it's not my daylily.
Someone said somewhere that they use the coffee stirrer straws. It would fit on it better and you could push it further down without it messing anything up.
Very nice pics everyone, thanks for posting.
We may have to start a "part 2" on this thread if it gets much longer, since everyone is starting to get blooms now, for those people on dial-up. I know when I was on dial-up it would take an eon to load. Someone just holler or start a new thread when it does.

I have not been on here for 2-3 days and so much posted I am having a hard time catching it all. Love these blooms/ Esp. the photo of the Pistil colors. That one needs to go into a photo contest.
We were talking on one of these threads about split pistils. I found one for you. This is one of my seedlings. Look closely at the throat shot and you'll find the five tubes that should have made up the pistil. Two are only half as long as the others. I was bummed! I wanted to use that bloom.
Great shots Tink. You really do a nice job.
I love Audrey Hepburn and Signature Truffle. I have several NOID doubles that lost their tags when we moved. I hope I still have those two somewhere.
Love the blooms TInk. I bet MYSTICAL INTUITION is one of those that looks better in person. All those colors going on make for a busy photo, but often that kind of flower really wows in person.
Thank you, Margaret. It bloomed almost pink last year (first year and dumped--not planted well--in a container), so the more normal deep purple is pleasing.

Lillian's Cheesequake and Mystic Intuition have some amazing colors in them. The pattern in MI is wonderful with that with that edge and then along comes Pikes Peak with that bold eye pattern and color. All the rest is so nice too but those really stand out.
