Oh, wow! Hurray!

Don't ya just love that clematis?!! If this makes any sense at all, mine don't even look real anymore...they're just that pretty! The stem decided to flop down on the floor of the Grotto Arbor, and it's now just a puddle of blooms...there's so many of them! Lovey dubby

You have Salvias blooming already? Sweet!

What's the upright, burgundy colored and sort of grassy looking plant? I like it!

I think you are referring to Lobelia Red Husker.
I was so excited when I saw the clem. I didnt realize it bloomed earlier than other clems. I planted it last year.
Your statement "mine dont even look real" is terrific

I am waiting for Vagabond in the container to bloom. Its loaded..

GF just told me its Penstemon Red Husker not Lobelia in the album.

Ah! Thank you! That Penstemon is so popular, and now I see why!

There are probably a half-dozen clematis blooming here, now. I'm toe-tapping for the Armide rose blooms to open. Like your Vagabond clematis, this rose plant is covered in buds this year. There must be hundreds...I might have cutting roses this year! Hurray!

I planted my first clematis this past year. It is still a tiny little thing about 10 inches tall. I am amazed that many of you have such huge ones, and in bloom. I can't wait until mines get to be anything at all like the ones I have seen here. You guys have lovely specimens.

Well the secret is that you buy them locally so they are much bigger than what you got. Or you buy them from Silver Star Vinery. Those vines really, really take off. And they have a huge selection of Clematis. They only grow clematis.

If you can plant clematis very near something that their roots can grow under, they're sublimely happy. Smiling A concrete slab, a deck, or on the north or east side of a post set in concrete are all ideal. They like the lime that's in concrete as an added bonus. If none of these are handy, some large slabs of rock or thick chunks of wood set over the root zone will work. A lot of mine are just covered with slabs of firewood.

They can take some time to settle in and be happy, but once they do, they'll grow like crazy.

I had a couple of very nice plants that I set in last spring; they're still only a few inches tall yet this year. Some similar (new last year, and from the same company) plants are blooming, but still haven't reached very high, as of yet. If I could bear to, I'd not let them bloom so they'd go up. I figure that the only way I'll get tall plants is to either wait patiently Rolling on the floor laughing , or depend on those late-bloomers for some height. Whistling

First blooms of Kathleen Dunford, new from Brushwood Nursery last year.

Fantastic garden. Do you have Paul Black's new e-mail from the catalog? I am sure hat he would love a photo of your 'Bluebeard's ghost.' As one hybridizer said, 'You never know what the kids do after they leave home'.

Went to a local nursery again today and bought plants. A flat of zinias and one of snapdragons. A potted dahlia as I can't grow them from tubers for the life of me. Some VICTORIA BLUE Salvia.

Plus 12 more tomato plants. I had enough at the 37 I had planted here. But I got it in my head that I wanted BIG BOY tomatoes and hadn't bought any. Then I have no more tomato cages so was researching a staking method called Florida Weave which uses stakes every few plants and uses twine to hold them upright (called a weave). So I really want to do that. Planned on buying a six pack of BIG BOY tomatoes and doing a row of six in the Florida weave style. Well, I did buy the six pack of BIG BOYS but I have no will power. I swear I would buy every type of tomato plant in the nursery if I had room. So I saw these lovely single plants of SUN GOLD and CHEROKEE PURPLE, bought those. So my row of six idea was changed to two rows of 4 idea instead! Then bought a Siberian tomato I will plant between two others already planted here by the house. And I found this patio garden growbag that is 39 inches long so I will put the last three (two FOURTH OF JULY and one SUGERY ) in there.

I had to buy bagged compost as I will be using to set up the new tomato garden area. I will be busy the next few days planting and also making a new tomato garden area. More grass will have to bite the dust!
