I'm jumping the gun here, but with soooo many buds, I can't believe that nothing's really opening up that much yet. I'm afraid that when everything *does* open, it's gonna be all at once!

Charles de Mills (still confused about this one, but that's what RU tagged as!!) isn't fully opened, but this bud's just gorgeous. I really need to move him to an area where I can attach a trellis!! He's crawling around on the ground!!

I'm delighted that your garden is in bloom. Good to see Magic Carrousel. I tried it in NJ and was surprised to find that it succumbed to black spot in its first season. But I did like the blooms. Gotta try it here.

One year I allowed a tradescantia in one corner of the garden to set seed. The next year every corner of the garden was filled with it. Then the third year it disappeared altogether. I was never sure what to think of it.

Seed? I've never seen seeds on any of mine. And that's one dependable plant! These plants here had been stuck in little 1gal pots all summer and dried out. Out of "oh, what the hell", I planted the shriveled up roots. Tada!! I have Concorde Grape, Sweet Kate (my fav), and Blueberry Sundae.

You're a little ahead of me. The only things that are really blooming for me are Austrian Copper and R. hugonis, although there is a lot of color in the bud on many roses.

Magic Carrousel is a good reliable one for me, one of my "bomb proof" minis.

Have you been to Iris4U in Denver? It'll be absolutely gorgeous very soon, if not already. I got most of my iris from there.

Zuzu - Could be.. I bought it as Lady Banks Pink (that's what the tag said). I believe she's thornless.. unfortunately I have right next to my Charles de Mills who's got enough thorns for himself & her & 5 other roses all at the same time. LOL! nodding He's a grabby rose, that's for darned sure. I definitely need to move him... he's too blood thirsty to be where he's at. I put him right next to my porch as I wanted some climbing roses going up my overhang pillar and I saw that he's supposed to be thornless per HMF. Well, he definitely isn't thornless, that's for sure!! I could switch Lady Banks w/Charles de Mills & put CdM some place else.. where I don't have to walk by every time I want to get to the water faucet.

You know, the more I look at pix of CdM on HMF, the more I'm convinced that RU had this one mismarked. The color is right, but the flowers are definitely not flat or cupped.. more closer to a traditional "florist" rose look than not. I just have to wait to see if he's going to bloom more than one time.

Actually, I think Ring of Fire looks pretty good in that photo, Toni.So does incognito. It's interesting how modern Charles de Mills looks as the rose just begins to open. I am reminded that I want to try Rainbow's End again. It suffered terribly from BS in NJ which surprised me. It's my first look at Vista, which appears to be almost a mini version of Paradise. Very interesting.

I can't believe how much is blooming this time of year. I'm at least 4 weeks ahead of myself. Not to mention the yard is actually *STARTING* to look like what I envisioned it 3 years ago. Well, not really, but the minibed is what I'm expecting my entire yard to look like in a few years.

Speaking of which, here's the minibed. This sits on the north side of my house on the east side of the garage and it has REALLY taken off since I got rid of the aspen that shaded it. The 4th picture is all the way up to my overhang on my porch, which is mostly shaded throughout the day.

The "east" side of my house in the front yard (not the actually yard part, but my rocked in area.. I'm slowly getting rid of the rocks & will be mulching it this year) is also blooming like crazy. Here's where Charles de Mills, Orange Velvet, Rose Maria Viaud, Theresa Bugnet, Lady Banks/Cecila Bruner, Henry Fonda, Ruby Ruby, and Betty Boop are (plus a new Blue Girl & Sterling Silver). In front of that area is Sunny Delite / Escapade / Sunny Delite next to a Charisma, my original Blue Girl, and Medallion.

Now this is supposed to be Tequila Sunset. I don't know. For the past 3 years it bloomed different than this year. This year, it's not as defined in orange on the edge, yellow in the inside, but rather more of a blend. That plus the blooms are a wee bit bigger (about 2" rather than the tiny 1.5" blooms).
