I was outside earlier putting up some decorations and snapped these pictures of the heavy frost this morning.

Then I took these pictures of my sleigh ride decoration. But then I added a wreath and some lights around the trellis.

Today I also decorated this small Blue Spruce and got the extinction cords hooked up to the ferris wheel and the dump rake. I can't wait to go out tonight when it gets dark and look at them. Maybe take some pictures.

Nice pix, Jeanne. You have your own little world out there. Lots of land to play and plant (and decorate! Smiling ) to your heart's desire.

Today in the neighborhood I saw what I believe to be the remnants of a coneflower which I found to be fascinating and I suddenly realized that beauty doesn't necessarily have to be wrapped up colors!

Singapore
hello
Hi haha was walking out to get lunch earlier n took some photos to show how the neighbourhoods in Singapore looks like. Haha ps it was raining earlier n I had to take photo while holding the umbrella, so sorry if the photos aren't niceπŸ˜…
In Singapore, land is scarce hence most ppl live in high rise flats/condomiums like those shown in the picture. They go over 60 storeys.
Anw haha everyone here seems to be living in a totally different environment haha so think u guys might wanna see how living in SG is like. Landed apartments r few n only for the super rich!!!πŸ˜‚ Various trees n plants r planted all around the island, along roads, streets n buildings, which earn Singapore its famous name 'City in a garden'. Tho I personally would love to live in a country side overseas where life is much slower pace n not so packed with ppl n tall buildings!

I noticed this thread when it first started. I thought, 'Oh, rats! I just deleted dozens of neighborhood pictures.' If I get my lazy self out maybe I'll take some more. Have to be careful, though. Like it or not, I do live in a big city and don't want people to think I'm lurking around their houses.

LCL β€” did you have a turkey for Thanksgiving?

The only good thing I have to say about rats squirrels is that the clever little beasts can run as fast as 20 mph. Not too shabby.

Even though I live in a city, I'm only a few miles from a lake in one direction and a smaller one in the opposite direction. Plus there are many underground streams. I've only seen an occasional racoon or possum. But others have seen coyotes. One person posted a picture on a neighbored site that showed a coyote walking along a sidewalk. Not jaywalking. Not on someone's yard. Just trotting along a city sidewalk.

Last year some hawks were living in an old wooden steeple of a neighborhood church. People reported seeing hawks swooping down and grabbing squirrels.

My hood is an older one and we expect to see some wildlife now and then. But I have no sympathy for newcomers who bulldoze the land out in the suburbs and then complain when they see coyotes. Heck, it was front page news when one of those folks saw a 'mountain lion'. Of course we don't have any mountains but that's beside the point. 😸

ZH β€” Please do post more pictures from your part of the world. I think we'd all love to see them.

I was fortunate to be able to spend some time in China one year. It was before I knew much about gardening but I saw a lot of plants growing in the countryside that people cultivate over here.

I wish I could remember what town I was in when my guide pointed to a new yet empty highrise. She said that no one would live in it because they thought it looked like a coffin. Smiling

I am so happy that forum members from all over are discovering this thread. Hurray! Globalization is such a threat to cultural diversity... but this thread shows that we can still find uniqueness in our immediate surroundings.

@ZH, your area is so green and lush. Some of the plants I see in your photos grow here as well even though our weather is much drier than yours. Interesting how plants adapt, isn't it? Your photos are nice, do post more! Smiling

@tx_flower_child, those deleted photos may still be available. If they were on your computer, look in your trash folder (Mac) or recycle bin (Windows). If you had them on your phone, lunch Photos (iPhone) and scroll down to "Recently Deleted" there you can select and "recover" any photo.

Coyotes used to keep me up at night, their conversations can be very noisy. You think what you hear is a bunch of them right in your yard but most of the time it's just a couple of them a mile away. It's amazing how far the wind can carry their yips, barks, and howls. We live in a city but there's a ravine nearby, I'm pretty sure the coyotes have made a den there. It's good to have them here, though; they control the hare population.

We have mountains to the east and mountain lions frequent the towns in the canyons but no sightings have been reported in the city, thankfully.

This is one of my most favorite threads along with a bunch of others. The roses and zinnias are so beautiful on other forums and now I have a fascination about succulents and cacti.
Some of your encouraging comments are so welcomed. @ZH posts are nice to read and @_tx_flower_child as well as @_Bleu_ . Photos are so fun to "click" on to zoom! @_tx_flower_child_ asked about turkey for Thanksgiving and my answer is "yes" but not wild turkey.
I walk a lot enjoying all things in nature and see things that are so memorable and maybe that's why I carry a camera or iPhone but the images hopefully are imprinted somewhere in my mind. This posted scene from the neighborhood is not new but it is one I love so will share.
Flowering Quince Bush with an American Goldfinch enjoying it as much as I.

We have quite a number of coyotes in the neighborhood and as @_Bleu_ commented, the coyotes do keep the hare and cottontail rabbit population under control with some help from the foxes.
Interestingly there is a synergistic relationship the foxes develop around this time of the year with humans as they seem to dare to venture a bit closer to avoid the coyotes because the nervous foxes have hungry kits awaiting in their dens. This photo is not the best for me but it is worse for the cottontail rabbit. There have been no mountain lions reported here but there have been black bear seen taking advantage of bird feeders and suet dispensers.

LCL β€” That's a stunning picture of the Flowering Quince Bush with an American Goldfinch. Did you enter it in the Photo Contest? If not, you should enter it in the 2019 Photo Contest.

_Bleu_ I do know how to recover deleted photos but not ones that are totally deleted. I did find some that I hadn't gotten around to yet. They're trees from around my hood. Mostly mine and my neighbors' trees. I don't remember which are which. We all have oaks as well as other trees. These pictures were taken in late November and close to 5 pm CT so it was starting to get dark.

Dead magnolia. Some type of fungus or mold slime on the tree. In the first picture, if you look closely, it looks like someone spread peanut butter on the tree. The 2nd picture is a close up of whatever the stuff is.

Singapore
hello
Hi all I've decided to post more photos after the sweet comments from you guys. As u can see, many facilities r built ard the neighbourhood to encourage a healthy, social n proactive lifestyle for people of all ages. This include basketball court, badminton Court, playgrounds n exercise equipments etc. As such, most Singaporean kids grew up making friends within the community n often play at playgrounds since young. Haha some info of sg: we r experiencing ageing population so many exercise equipments r built in neighbourhoods to cater especially for the elderly to encourage them to exercise regularly. Tho after past teens, most ppl dun really interact much with others within the community through such facilities alr... I guess perhaps of the Conservative culture in Singapore as well as the hectic lifestyles of students n working adults.

Sad looking magnolia... Such beautiful trees they are. The stuff on the trunk looks a bit like "winter fungus."

Interesting thread! Smiling It's really interesting to see what happens in other parts of the world. I live in the city most of the year, but next to a large park. There are many parks here, fortunately. The weather is changing fast. All November we did not see the snow, but a week ago the snow appeared. It is a pity that now it is warm and the snow is melting. But after a few days we are waiting for a good frost with snow again. Smiling

Most of what I deleted were taken about the same time and I was running out of light.

Here's a tree that proves why it's a bad thing to plant ivy.

The roots of the ivy grew pretty thick, eh? They actually look like a part of the tree rather than a growth on the tree.
