We have a new computer with Windows 10 and it came with a photo editing thing that has all these whizz bang effects it can do to photographs but I can't find how to put a simple title with a photograph. Is there some secret button I can't find? Does anyone here have the Windows 10 photo program and know how to do this? Lola.
Do not use the default windows photo program. Awful. You can do so much better. Irfanview 4.5.2 was just announced. The most popular free photo program in the world. For a reason. It is user friendly. One feature is add text. You can draw a rectangle anywhere in the frame. Then insert text. Gives you way more options than you will ever need. Font, color, size. Title your pictures. Date them. Put mouth bubbles next to your kids heads. And you will probably not need help figuring out to do it. Gene
Ann - I have now tried the link but it didn't help. I can't figure out what it wants me to do because it describes things I don't have on my screen.
Gene - I downloaded Irfanview but can't find how to download photos from my camera to it. It is just a black screen with a toolbar that has no option for downloading.
If you want Irfanview to be your default picture viewer -
Left click in search box (bottom left) type apps.
Apps screen will open with a box for images. You can select Irfanview.
The free version of Jet Audio is my choice for audio files and videos.
Where ever you downloaded Irfanview from, make sure you also download another file as well. Irfanview plug-ins. It will auto load into Irfanview. Just some things needed but not in the main program.
Do not ever plug your camera into your computer. But that is another subject. Take your card out of the camera and download the pix to your computer. It probably has a slot for SD cards. Put them into a folder (use today's date as a title?) Then Irfanview, file , open.
My computer is very old ( the tower is only new on the inside) and has no slot for the card. Perhaps I should look at my laptop to see what program it has and either use it for photos or install Irfanview onto it. Thanks for all your help.
Try Zoner.com. There are free versions, many tutorials and lots of help. I runs on any PC and any version of Windows. If you don't have a slot for your downloads, email the photos to yourself via your cell phone. If you can get the photos on your desktop, clicking them will open in zoner editor once it is downloaded to your computer. Zoner has been around for years - I have used it for more than 15 years - through many versions and upgrades and it beats every Photoshop version I have tried. You can purchase the subscription, latest version or use it free - (usually the older version that has just been upgraded.) The free tutorials could be a photo school by themselves.
Zoner is the most used editor in Europe and all tutorials are in English as is the program. There are also experts available for any questions.
Myself, and of course what I tell all my students, I do not use, get any software that has a monthly, yearly fee. Silly. Irfanview is free, though I did donate him some money. XnView is free. Both highly suggested must haves.
