Rick, your seed isn't embarrassingly old! I have a ton of seed from 2007 & 2008! I don't bother swapping them since no one would take them. But they germinate for me just fine. I just let the plants go to seed and give out the fresh seed. I believe the Linaria, Fairy Bouquet was from seed from 2004!
