Oh, shoes. As a young child, I really preferred shoeless. And no wonder! We were poor and only had cheap, ill-fitting shoes that hurt my feet quite a bit. I always seemed to have foot problems. Anytime I left the house I usually put up with shoes...often it seemed like torture. Still, I learned to be civilized and eventually had a little better shoes. I later found out I had spurs...bones on the top of my feet that just stuck out too much. Should have had an operation sometime, but never did, because I didn't realize it could be fixed until late in life. I have chronic foot cramps, various injuries, have had plantar fasciitis a few times, have had ingrown toenails countless times, not to mention a problem with my big toe which my doctor thought was arthritis. And just plain sore feet...lots of times. I wear Crocs most of the time now. Special orthopedic type shoes don't help much, unfortunately. Fashionable, pretty shoes, any "heel" of any kind...life is too short to put up with them! Going barefoot outside isn't an option here even in the yard. Too dangerous!
