David, yes I'm going to pour a little more cold water on your Plantain idea by saying - it makes a really big, heavy, water hog of a plant and you won't like it anyway if it makes fruit.

On the star fruit, you do realize that it grows into a 20ft. tree, right? They're really nice, have shiny leaves, little pink flowers on the trunks twice a year and fruit easily and generously. Most people here who have one in their yard spend their time trying to give away buckets full of the fruit. I enjoy it once in a while, but wouldn't want to grow one.

But honestly, I do hope you're planning to move to Florida in the near future? You really do have the tropical plant bug, bad!
