Hi Crissy, I just posted a couple photos of my plant to be sure we are talking about the same plant here. I identified it off of Google images so hope it's right.

Otherwise I'm not sure I'll be much help. This is a plant I bought in a home store for my mother in law. She gave it back to me after a couple weeks because she didn't like it. It has just been a house plant for us for about a year now. It never goes outside. It sits by a very sunny bay window. I have fed it only some diluted seaweed solution occasionally, along with all of our indoor plants.

I do notice that it wakes up and blooms during our colder months, like now. The larger bottom leaves yellow and drop off but there is always new growth coming up. This blooming time could be because more sun comes in this particular window this time of year though.

It is a very interesting plant. The new growth, both leaves and bloom, are a brownish color. Then the leaves turn a glossy green and the blooms a glossy red. Then there is the yellow (I don't know, sex thing) that grows out of the middle of the bloom.

I've never repotted it from its store bought container.
If you don't lose some plants to the weather this year, you aren't trying hard enough. - Glenn Hasulak
