I am late to the conversation but would like to add a few things.

The pictures are amazing and quite informative. Thank you, James.

Karen, thank you for the info about disabling the database adds through our profile. The reason why I turned that setting off (personally) is that I have lots of pictures of some plants and only want the best ones (which I want to choose) to be in the database.

Finally, James, I understand your concern about lack of concordance with names. I personally find these databases extremely annoying some times. And the way they affect plant names here at ATP can sometimes be problematic. Anyway, two comments if I may.

First, your photos will reach more eyes and have a greater lasting impact if you make them part of the plant database (eventually). Which of course is your call but I speak as a user when I urge you to populate the ATP database with as many of your cactus pictures as possible. Thumbs up

Second, there is a mechanism by which names can be changed in the database here, ie. "corrected" to agree with the most current name. They follow the CoL but will entertain the use of other names if you provide a good justification (like a link or source or a very specific reason). Since you and Thijs apparently agree in the case of this particular cactus, perhaps compelling evidence could be presented to change its name in the database.

I recommend contacting @zuzu directly for fastest resolution of these matters, because they aren't going to change names against what's listed in the CoL without you delivering a strong justification.

Point is, if the name is wrong in the ATP database, it doesn't have to stay that way. Smiling
