Hello everyone...

My mother has what I will refer to as an old school climbing rose. It has been in the family for a very long time as it was one originally owned by a great aunt of mine so I know it is 50 plus years old. Any way to the point and questions...

This year, the rose has a few branches that have clumps of leaves, then a bare stem and more clumps of leaves. This is occurring on several braches of the rose. I wish I had a good picture to show but maybe you can tell from the one below.

Is this something to worry over, should these branches be pruned off or is there something that it is missing in the soil that would cause this to occur.
