Thanks for the advice Sue. I suspected Elfin Illusion croaked last Fall so I wasn't that concerned about digging around where it was planted. As expected, I found nothing. But I have several dls that haven't started growing yet and they have me worried. Beautiful Edgings looks dead but I dug up to transplant it (it desperately needed more space) and the roots in 6 fans were healthy. So I'm assuming that if the roots look good they will recover.
