That blasted scape was on Benz's 1994 Porcelain Queen, added last summer. I planted two Lily Auction fans in the hole, and they both developed into surprisingly big, robust plants. I threw some liquid fertilizer their way a couple of times this spring, which, combined with the rains, probably contributed to the blasting. I need to remember that plants in beds don't require as much feeding as container plants do.
I thought about taping a cracked scape on one of my seedlings, but when I looked a couple of days later it had cracked again a little lower and the buds were pointed at the ground, so I wrote it off. It was an older, "stunted in a container" seedling when I planted it last summer, and it busted out of the ground this spring with at least 3 big fans, so it will hopefully bloom again this year.
I remember hearing about silicone seal or some other adhesive being used along with tape in order to repair cracked scapes, but I can't remember what it was. It was probably some other kind of rubber-like glue, because silicone adhesive seems like something that would chemically damage a scape.
