Let's look at that quote again.

Leaves nearly always alternate (opposite only in Cheirodendron); spiral, or distichous (rarely), or four-ranked (rarely); commonly leathery; petiolate (usually), or subsessile; more or less sheathing (usually), or non-sheathing.

These leaves are opposite. They may be "four-ranked" but I doubt this is Cheirodendron.

If it's real then according to that information it can't be Araliaceae, but I don't know what else it could be (I've spent a long time on this).

Not sure if you missed my post about this, but there are juveniles in the area that have the same growth patterns.

We would like to see these, can you take photos of the juveniles?

CLAYBYRD said:

That is a new growth. Like I said, they only come out of the same locations as fallen leaves.

It looks like a security light to me but that doesn't mean somebody hasn't attached one using battery power. some have a camera incorporated usually PIR operated.

The jury's out on the leaf joints, they look artificial but they could be real.
