I guess this leads to a larger question. If nurseries are selling something called 'DEA' but it was originally called "blah blah" but now everyone knows the plant as 'DEA' then why not have a database entry for this new name. For example 'Silver King' I'm pretty sure the one at all the stores that is green and red (nothing silver about it) is incorrectly named but because so many people know this clone to be 'Silver King' we think of it as this, even though I'm pretty sure the real 'Silver King' is probably the fuzzy greenish white one which could look silver...I know none of us like what these large scale nurseries are doing, they are only interested in selling plants and not in keeping any kind of history or record of what the clones actually are - in a way this is what Chris Hansen is doing with his 'chick gems' - creating new and fancy names for the same old clones - although he is keeping track of what the real names are so our database can do the 'Also sold as' thing...my point, after rambling, sorry, is that we may as well add these ones to the database, since they are in the market and people will have them. 'DEA' is being sold at my Fred Meyer, which tells me it is probably being sold in many places, and we probably won't ever ID what it used to be called.
It seems a far greater problem for the database is having incorrect photos for clones we know.
And I think we are doing a great job of trying to stay on top of that!! This is just my opinion.
And also - great idea to contact whoever is responsible for 'DEA' because they may know what semp it really is (as you suggested Lynn) I tip my hat to you.
