You know Donald .... I'd be looking at all kinds of containers to use for cover, such as tall and large boxes, large trashcans, etc. to cover those plants in case of hail. That would be a total bummer to lose all those scapes to a pounding hail storm. Any chance of creating a temporary hoop house over them that you could cover with tarp or something. Hoop structures could be created using 1/2" pvc tubing/pipes and plastic clips or spring clips:
