In the ground because you expect little 'taters? Or because its pretty? Either way, you will have little 'taters because that is the nature of potatoes. My daughter had one that was rotting so she threw it into a 5-gallon bucket on a couple inches of dirt. As the stem grew, she added dirt. The plant never really took off but.... when she gave up and dumped the bucket into the compost, she discovered she had 7 pretty good sized potatoes!

Go figure!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost
