My Tesselaar order arrived yesterday (Friday), which was pretty quick, considering I'd only ordered them on Wednesday. I planted them today in a pot.
Maroon King:
This bulb was smaller than L. martagon var. albiflorum (4cm across at its widest) and one scale appeared damaged. It did, however, have a big mass of roots attached (quite a few up to 20cm long), which I know is a good thing for martagons. Maybe this one will flower next summer?
L. martagon var albiflorum:
This bulb looked large and healthy (5cm across at its widest). However, all its roots appear to have been cut only a few centimetres (or about an inch) below the bulb. I'm guessing this will be a no-show next summer given it's now a couple of weeks into winter and it'll need time to repair its root system.
I know that martagons don't always flower the first year after transplant, but this pretty much guarantees it, right?
