I must have had "the look" because when we tried to leave Hawaii my luggage was stopped and checked several times while my amused husband's went straight through. The agents kept repeating "you know you can buy inspected plants at the airport shop." I swore I did not have anything in my bags but they sure thought I did. I guess my bags, which have often carried plants, alerted the sniffer dogs.
