Since they come from a sunny Mediterranean region, they are quite heat resilient so I doubt they were burnt by the sun. Probably too much water, they'll get root rot. Soil really needs to be a light sandy well drained mix which allows for good drainage. They hate "wet feet". They should be watered deeply but infrequently, when the soil is almost dry. Established plants need little water, as they are extremely drought tolerant.
