Zuzu, somewhere on their website I read that shipping is Monday after ordering. Like many nurseries, they are trying to avoid having an order sit in a post office over a weekend. I placed another order Saturday night, but I sent them a note saying no hurry on this one because we're going to be at 100 degrees all week long. I'm not worried about the time in the mail because priority mail is flown in here and my carrier is exceptional about getting boxes to my door. I just know I won't be working outside much this week. They have sold out of several that I wanted, but I did get Meredith Bohls and Reve d'Or.
Michael Shupe's Empress of the Garden book is one resource I use when selecting old garden roses. His photos and prose are so enticing. After listening to him talk about OGRs at the national ARS meeting a few years ago, I wanted to fill my garden with blousy, gangly, smelly old roses.
My youngest daughter was home on Friday, and I was showing her pictures of some of the roses I just bought. She was comparing their bloom forms to hybrid teas, and pointed out that cabbage roses are my kind because they look like my hair. That's untamed, curly, a real big mess. She's right, really. My gardens reflect my dislike of defined, sharp edges or anything tightly controlled. Hilarious!
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.
