I am pretty new at veggie gardening as well, but I'm planning broccoli, cauliflower, parsnips, & lettuce for this Fall. There is a vegetable & fruit gardening forum on NGA with tons of information, fyi, if you haven't found it already. Do you know your growing zone? That might help people make better recommendations for you. I'm on the border of 7b/8a, so I can grow some things almost year round.
