I have to admit I've never been fond of daylilies that start blooming after mid August, the lates and very lates. The last one to bloom was always Pee Wee's Big Adventure, a bud builder that starts blooming early August, it just goes on and on and on til frost...many times it was the only dayliliy with scapes still standing! By mid August I've already started trimming and cleaning the beds, moving plants, redoing beds, filling the sales row and late bloomers were always viewed as a pain...in the way and I would need to go back to the already cleaned areas and trim them after they finished blooming when I was rushing trying to finish all the other projects before winter. Plus our normally cold mornings made for extremely messy plants, blooms that wouldn't open and then wouldn't close all stuck together in a slimy mass. Within the past year or two I've come to enjoy the late bloomers more. I get to see them, really see them, without the distraction of several hundred other cultivars all blooming at the same time and the crazy busy rush of everything that comes with the main bloom season. They give me something to look forward to as I head out for those end of season garden projects. Rouen Catherdral has been a big part of my change of heart on lates, such a pretty bloom. It was a bonus plant that came with an order from the Rice's.

No new images today, we had showers off and on, so I'm going to cheat and post a few leftovers in my image file.... Smiling

Heidi is Happy, showing a bit more pink first thing in the morning before it gets warmed by the sun.

Lust Without You, settling in after being moved last fall.

Quicksilver Girl, a little spotty, it was a tough season with thirsty bugs.

Swallow Tail Kite, Lovey dubby

Tall Blonde, last fall I moved a black bugbane seedling in behind Tall Blonde thinking the two would work well together. It's always fun to work the beds in the fall putting together plant combinations while the colors are still fresh in your mind, then waiting to see them the next year.
