Personally, i would guess that you planted this eutrochium in the full sun.
I find they do best in a bit of shade, like at the forest edge.
At my house in the sand hills.... I have a couple specimens fixing to bloom, and didn't get a drop of water through the drought this year.... of course, these are established plantings.... but it isn't the wilting that caused the leaf burn.
