Well, as we evolved, our diets changed. Our activities changed (sitting at a desk as opposed to out hunting animals for food). We started wearing shoes... a lot changed... But most of all, our lives extended. You know, when life expectancy was only 40 years, people might just not have lived long enough to develop all the aches and pains.
A longer life does mean more time for disease and other afflictions to develop.
