I can't say my family disregards gardening. We all do it. But we all do it in very different ways. My sister grows the most perfectly trimmed and flowering butterfly bush I ever saw. My (sadly) deceased sister was the best organic grower I ever met. I do some of all, organically, and rather informally.
I have formal flowerbeds, formal gardenbeds, wildflower areas, spring bulbs and lily areas, and wild areas in the far back yard for the cats to sneak around in.
I like a bit of everything.
