That's one way to impose some self control!
A couple of years ago I ordered 5 colchicum that I thought were different varieties. They were sold as C. bornmuelleri, C. speciosum, C. cilicicum, 'Giant', and 'Dick Trotter'. The database here says C. bornmuelleri and C. speciosum are the same. Anyhow, 'Giant' and C. cilicicum have been the best performers here- both produce lots of blooms and increase well. The one sold as C. speciosum disappeared, but the one sold as C. bornmuelleri has returned and bloomed reliably without much increase. 'Dick Trotter' had never produced a bloom but I was just outside and noticed the tip of a bud emerging from the spot!
Jack, it seems later blooming bulbs are more challenging to force. I know it can be done because the Dutch cut flower market has them available much of the year, but I have a feeling its a specialized process.
