Pamela, Crotons (Codiaeum) grow outside as landscape plants here in Florida and they get huge. I've never tried growing one as a houseplant; they require high light and high humidity. I agree with Elaine, the garden soil is not a good idea for plants grown inside. I can't offer advice on growing inside but I hope you keep us posted on how your Croton's do.
