re. using information from other sources... citation is important, just like when you wrote papers in HS or college...

If you are repeating information that is "common knowledge" (you found it several places), there's no need to cite a source. For example, some seeds germinate in about the same amount of time regardless of variety (tomatoes, sweet peppers), so you wouldn't need a source for that. Lettuce seed germination, however, can vary widely depending on variety, so if you're filling in details for an unusual variety you might want to cite where you found the information in a comment after you've filled in the details.

If you put specific, unique, not-generally-known information into your own words, you should still cite your source if possible, even if it's a vague "I think I read once in Mother Earth News that this is the best clover for nitrogen fixation."

You can certainly quote directly from other sources, but the quote should be just a portion of the information. Use quotation marks and/or italics to set off the text you're quoting, and cite your source.

And don't post a picture without checking the copyright information on it... many images are public domain or can be used as long as you give credit ( the name of the photographer), but if that's not clearly the case, then you need permission from the photographer.

It sounds like everyone posting on the subject has a handle on it, but I wanted to jump on my former-academic soapbox for a moment anyway. Thanks for bearing with me!
We're all learners, doers, teachers.
