This was brought up in the thread September 2016 website redesign is complete!, starting with post #238.

It's doesn't required anymore clicking than you did before. It's just a bit different than what you are used to. Instead of right clicking an icon for a new tab and then clicking what you want, you left click an icon to a pop up box or drop down menu and then click (right or left) to what you want. So you just need to relearn your habit.

The only thing cumbersome would be if you wanted to have all those action icons in multiple tabs open at the same time. For the two icons that produce a pop up box (not a drop down menu), that would require one extra click each.

When I right click on the home icon and select to open in new tab or page, the home page does open in a new tab or page. I use Firefox 49.
